Wine Cork Monogram Project

You guys know I love my craft projects as much as baking in the kitchen…so I can’t help but share some of the latest craft projects I have been working on, with you.  So we are taking a break from the sweets, so I can bring you a different kind of treat!  But don’t worry….I will be back tomorrow with an awesome recipe that I am SUPER excited to share with you!!!  This wine cork monogram project is super easy, cheap to make and makes an awesome personal gift to give someone (or just make one for yourself!).  Go get your glue gun warmed up and lets get crafty!

The idea to make this wine cork monogram came to me one night when I couldn’t fall asleep.  Awhile back I had decorated the nursery for my friend Gloria, who was pregnant and wanted me to work my design magic on Baby M’s nursery.  Gloria told me that everyone who saw Baby M’s nursery after I finished decorating it, said it looked like it was straight out of a magazine!  So Gloria asked me if I could design her entry way and living room too (brand new house and total blank canvas!).  Gloria gave me a budget (which I went over by $200….sorry Gloria!) and free reign to design the rooms as I wanted.  My eyes wandered past the living room and entry way though…

Gloria’s husband had built some awesome shelves for the dining room area, which Gloria had started to decorate in a bar theme.  A few more items were needed to finish the bar theme on the shelves, and this idea for the wine cork monogram popped into my head!

What you need for this project: a flat wood letter (I got mine at Hobby Lobby for a couple of bucks), wine corks to cover the letter, a glue gun and glue sticks!

Luckily I am a wine drinker, so I save my wine corks because I use them to make wreaths with too.  The wife of one of the guys I work with also works at a winery and gave me a TON of wine corks too.  They were just going to throw them away…so here we are recycling 🙂  If you don’t drink wine, I am sure you probably know someone who does, and I am sure they wouldn’t mind saving the wine corks for you.  You can also purchase corks at craft stores too.

All you are going to do is add hot glue to the side of the wine cork you are going to place on your letter, and gently push the wine cork onto the letter.  If you have a monogram that does not have any rounded sides, then this will be an easier project.  I found that my wine corks were actually in a few different sizes, so I played around with setting them on the monogram before I glued them down.  I also cut a few corks, to get smaller pieces to fill in where a regular sized cork would not fit.  Continue gluing the corks down until the entire wood monogram is covered with corks!

Yes…I like red wine and only red wine.  From a variety of wineries.  As you can see.

Once you have the monogram covered with corks.  Let it set overnight before standing it up.  You want that glue to set and the corks to completely adhere to the wood.

And there’s my wine cork monogram letter all set up on Gloria’s shelves!

This project cost me under $5 to make (welllllll not counting all that wine I had to drink to get those corks!) and about 15-minutes to make.  I think this would be a nice house warming present to bring to the wine lover in your life (accompanied with a full bottle of wine of course).
