French Bread Pizza

French Bread Pizza is a super easy weeknight dinner, that is cheap to make and can be made in under 30-minutes start to finish!

As a teenager I worked in a grocery store as a bagger.  Probably some of the fondest memories I have come from working that job!  I worked with such neat people and that made work fun.  Oh the shenanigans….especially when I worked the night shifts 😉

But besides all the fun I had at work, I still remember what happened at 4:00 every afternoon, at the grocery store…that was when the bakery pulled out the freshly baked french bread from the oven.  That smell.  Mmmmm.  I might have been guilty of buying a loaf of bread and eating the whole loaf during a shift.  Oh…to have the metabolism of a 17-year old hahahaha.

But anyways.  Pizza.  This recipe is so easy to put together and you only need a few ingredients to make it.  You can add on your favorite toppings and even have the kids help with this recipe!  This is great for dinner, but could also be made for parties and those upcoming backyard BBQ get togethers, as a fun appetizer.

French Bread Pizza

Print Recipe
Serves: 6-8 Cooking Time: 12-14 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf french bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1-2 teaspoons minced garlic (depending on your love of garlic)
  • 1-1/4 cups pizza sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 (8-ounce) package finely shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (3.5-ounce) package pepperoni

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 425-degrees. Line a rimmed baking pan with foil. Set aside.

2

In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Stir the garlic into the melted butter.

3

Cut the loaf of bread in half, length wise. Place the crust side of both slices of bread down on the prepared pan, so the crust is the bottom of the pizza. Spread the butter garlic mixture evenly over the top of each half of bread. Evenly spread the pizza sauce on each side of the bread, on top of the butter garlic mixture, and sprinkle the Italian seasoning over the sauce. Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the two halves of bread and top with the pepperonis.

4

Bake the pizza in 425-degree oven for 12-14 minutes, or until you reach your desired doneness (mine took 14-minutes). Remove the pizza from the oven and let sit on the pan for several minutes, before slicing into slices. Serve warm.

Notes

Store leftover slices of pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator. For best results reheating, put pizza slices in 350-degree oven until warmed through.

Grab plates…and lots of napkins 😉

Cut this pizza up like garlic bread…

If you like bread and if you like pizza, then you will love this!  That crispy, yet soft bite to bread.  With the flavors of butter, garlic, tomatoes, cheese and pepperoni.

XOXO, Kelly

I’ve definitely eaten entire loaves of French bread by myself. If only fresh baked bread weren’t so delicious :). I’m loving the sound of these pizzas! The only way to make bread even better (besides topping it with butter) is probably adding cheese! Have a great weekend Kelly!

I totally forgot about french bread pizza. Way easier than whipping up some dough. My mom used to make this for us as a kid. This is making me feel all nostalgic!

Friday night is pizza night over here and instead of buying pizza every week, we like to try different recipes. One of our favorites is Pizza Paninis on sourdough bread, which gets crispy and gooey. This looks like it would be fluffy because of the french bread – and that sounds so yummy! I’m adding this to our pizza recipe rotation!

I’m so with ya, girl! YUM nothing like the smell of fresh bread. Being GF intolerant, that’s what I miss most!! Delicious french loaf…there’s nothing like it. I love the story of you working in the grocery store and eating the fresh bread on your shift. I would have, too! haha This looks super easy and what an ingenius idea!! You’re so super creative. I have finally found a really good GF loaf (Udi’s) I actually enjoy and I bet I can make mini pizzas with it (it’s fairly small and narrow). Definitely trying this!!! 😀

Thanks Dana!! I’m glad that it seems like the quality of GF products has risen quite a bit over the years…15 years ago no one really knew what gluten free was, and there weren’t many products out there for the GF folks. I can’t live without bread! AHHHHH!
