Have you ever grilled a pork tenderloin before?? Pork tenderloin is actually the “other” white meat and is extremely lean and healthy. The perfect alternative to a rich, fat juicy steak, but with less calories and still a ton of flavor. As part of #RecipeMakeover, I decided to grill up a healthy pork tenderloin using my Smokin-O’s smoke rings to show you healthy food doesn’t have to mean bland food! Plus this post has links to my other health-ified recipes, so you can put them all together for a better-for-you, steakhouse-esque dinner! Are you excited?? I am!
When I signed up for #RecipeMakeover, I was given the opportunity to work with Smokin-O’s, to develop a healthy recipe utilizing their product. Smokin-O’s sent me their product for free, to use when developing my recipe. However, all opinions, recipes and pictures in this post are mine 🙂
I don’t have a smoker or fancy BBQ. Just a plain ol’ gas grill. So I was excited to receive Smokin-O’s rings, which are designed to add that smoke and charcoal flavor to food cooked on a gas grill! You don’t have to pre-soak the Smokin-O’s either like you do with wood chips…you just heat your grill up, place a smoke ring on the grill straight from the package, let the ring light and smoke, and then you are in business! Instant flavor added to your food! And so easy…because if I can do it, YOU can do it! Click here to check Smokin-O’s out and to watch the video on how the product works!
Receiving the Smokin-O’s to use for #RecipeMakeover, inspired me to make you guys a full-on, healthier version, of a steakhouse dinner! Plus it has kinda been on my list of recipes to make for the blog, after one of my friends specifically requested it. So as part of my healthier dinner, we are grilling a pork tenderloin, instead of a fatty piece of beef. I love grilled pork tenderloin, and the Smokin-O’s smoke rings lend such a nice smoky flavor to the meat. To make this a complete meal, make sure you make my Baked Garlic Bread Made Healthier, Healthier Caesar Salad with Healthy Caesar Vinaigrette and Baked White Sweet Potato Fries to go with this pork tenderloin!
You can get a plain pork tenderloin for this recipe or one that is already marinated in spices for you. Both are healthy.
Ready for the grill and the Smokin-O.
Once your Smokin-O ring is smoking, put you tenderloin on the grill.
Mmmmmmm….the Smokin-O’s smoke ring smells AMAZING. I used the charcoal variety for my pork tenderloin.
Grilled Pork Tenderloin
Print RecipeIngredients
- 1 Pork tenderloin (1-2 pounds), trimmed of excess fat*
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 teaspoons barbecue seasoning
- *Option to use a store bought, pre-marinated pork tenderloin. My grocery store sells several varieties of pre-marinated pork tenderloins, including: cracked pepper, mesquite, applewood bacon and more.
Instructions
Preheat gas grill to 400-degrees. Let grill heat up for several minutes and then place a Smokin-O's smoke ring on a hot spot on the grill. Close the lid of the grill. Allow smoke ring to smoke for 10-minutes (click on the above link for full Smokin-O's instructions).
While grill is heating up, trim the excess fat from the pork tenderloin. Rub the olive oil evenly over the pork tenderloin and sprinkle with the barbecue seasoning.
Once grill is ready, and Smokin-O's ring is smoking, reduce the heat of the grill to 350-375 degrees, and place your tenderloin on the grill. Turn and check the tenderloin every 4-minutes. Grill tenderloin until the center of the tenderloin reaches an internal temperature of 150-degrees. I used an electronic thermometer to check the internal temperature of the tenderloin.
Remove tenderloin from the grill once it has reached proper temperature, cover with foil and let rest for 10-minutes before slicing and serving. Cut against the grain when slicing the pork. Serve warm.
Notes
Store leftover tenderloin in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Who says you need red meat to have a yummy steak house dinner? Not me!!
After the pork has had a chance to rest, slice it up and serve!
Don’t forget the Baked White Sweet Potato Fries (which my stepson declared the BEST fries ever…better than McDonald’s! hahahaha).
I loved using Smokin-O’s smoke rings for grilling this pork tenderloin. You could definitely taste the smoke flavor! Now I don’t have to go buy me a fancy smoker to get that smoky flavor! If you are lucky enough to have a fancy smoker (I’m seriously jealous), you can also use the Smokin-O’s in your smoker and on charcoal grills too. You just can’t use Smokin-O’s inside your house…unless you like having the fire department visit you.
Y’all know I keep it real….so I’m gonna keep it real and give you my honest opinion about Smokin-O’s. I have been using the Smokin-O’s on my grill, every time I have grilled, for the past month. I grill boneless, skinless chicken breasts in batches for meal prep for the week, and using the Smokin-O’s has given the chicken an amazing smoky flavor. I have used all three of their varieties (Mesquite, Charcoal and Applewood) and still don’t know which one is my favorite, because I LOVE them all. Plus smelling the Smokin-O’s as it is smoking on the grill, is like the best smell ever….ahhhhh deep inhale. Smells.So.Good. I am hooked.
Click HERE to buy Smokin-O’s. And don’t forget to follow Smokin-O’s on Instagram, Twitter and FaceBook! Like their page and share it, so other people can discover this new product. Heck—you can like and share this post on FaceBook too while you’re at it…just sayin 😉
Happy Grilling!! Let me know what you thought about this recipe! Are you interested in trying the Smokin-O’s? This is the last recipe I am posting for #RecipeMakeover week, so let me know what you thought about this weeks recipes!
