Valentine’s Day Deco Mesh Wreath Tutorial

Make your own Valentine’s Day Deco Mesh Wreath. This post includes the materials and instructions on making your very own heart themed Valentine’s Day wreath.

This post is to give you some design inspiration, so if you want step-by-step directions (with pictures!), check out this POST.

All the materials I used for my wreath came from Hobby Lobby, Amazon and random craft supply leftovers I had.  You can find the 16-inch work wreaths at Hobby Lobby by the floral department.

MATERIALS:

  • 16-inch work wreath
  • Two rolls 10-inch x 10-yards deco mesh
  • one 6-inch roll deco mesh (optional to add more fullness and color) – I used leftover deco mesh from another project
  • wired ribbon
  • decorative items of your choosing
  • holiday sign (optional)
  • hot glue, glue gun, scissors

Set your wreath so the bottom, outermost edge is flat the floor.  Open all the pipe cleaner grabbers, so they are erect.  Unwrap the larger roll of deco mesh and secure the beginning of your deco mesh to one set of grabbers from the inner circle.

Make a 3-inch loop with the deco mesh and secure the loop to the grabbers next to where you secured the deco mesh.  Continue making loops, going in a counter-clockwise direction until the inner circle is complete with loops.  Transition to the outer circle.  Continue to make loops until ALL the deco mesh has been used.

Use the smaller roll of deco mesh to accent the main deco mesh, filling in the wreath so it is full and fluffy.  I did not use the entire roll of my accent deco mesh.  Once you are satisfied with the deco mesh part of your wreath, close the grabbers and push down so they can’t be seen. I tie pieces of ribbon around the grabbers to really hide them, but to also add more color.

Then add your decorative items. I like to lay everything out on the wreath and then play around with how I want to glue them on before actually gluing them on. Then glue your sign directly onto the middle of the wreath.
I always buy more decorative pieces than I need and then just return what I don’t use  I let the ribbon be the star of this wreath and then just used the Valentine’s Day mini flag and the red plastic hearts on the stick and the large metal heart for the center.

Now you are ready to hang on your front door! And then back to Hobby Lobby to return everything I didn’t use. I bought everything on sale and would estimate the cost to make at around $30-$40.
