Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Cream cheese is added to the classic sugar cookie recipe, to make the ultimate soft and creamy sugar cookie.  Rolled in even more sugar before baking for a little crunch on top.  No chilling required for this easy, drop-style sugar cookie recipe.  These sugar cookies bake up pillowy-soft, with no danger of flat cookie puddles.  So if your homemade cookies fall victim to over-spreading, try this recipe!

This post is sponsored in conjunction with #SpringSweetsWeek. I received product samples from sponsor companies to help in the creation of the #SpringSweetsWeek recipes. All opinions are mine alone.

I LOVE sugar cookies.  Probably because I love sugar hahahaha.  But if you are one of those people that think sugar cookies are “plain” then you need to try these cookies!  The cream cheese adds softness and an ever-so-slight twang to these sugar cookies that is a fun twist from the classic sugar cookie.

When I received the several bags of Dixie Crystals White Granulated Sugar to bake with for #SpringSweetsWeek, I knew immediately I wanted to use the sugar to make some kind of sugar cookie.  I just don’t have enough variations of one of my favorite cookies here on the blog!

But the most important ingredient in these cookies?!  SUGAR!  Duh!  And nothing but the best with Dixie Crystals!  So lets roll these cookie dough balls in even more Dixie Crystals sugar…

And now we are ready to BAKE!!

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Print Recipe
Serves: 30 Cooking Time: 10-minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup Dixie Crystals white granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • scant 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/4 cup Dixie Crystals white granulated sugar

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 350-degrees. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

2

In the bowl of a stand mixer, affixed with the paddle attachment, add the butter and cream cheese and beat until smooth and creamy. Add the sugar to the butter mixture and beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla and almond extracts into the sugar mixture. Change the speed of the mixer to low and slowly add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cornstarch, salt and nutmeg to the sugar mixture, mixing until barely combined.

3

Remove the bowl from the mixer. Use a standard sized cookie scoop (heaping tablespoon) to scoop cookie dough balls. Roll the balls in a bowl containing the sugar topping.

4

Place cookies a few inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Bake in 350-degree oven for 10-minutes. Let cookies set on the cookie sheet for 10-minutes, before moving to a cooling rack to finish cooling.

In all honesty…does it get any better than fresh-from-the-oven homemade cookies??  Not in my world!!

Be sure to check out Dixie Crystals online and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube!

XOXO,

Kelly

You can’t go wrong with sugar cookies! I think I’ll have to make these for Easter and roll them in some pastel sanding sugar. But you know I’ll make two batches to make up for all the cookies I eat before they actually make it to Easter brunch 🙂

Hahahaha right?! And to make up for the cookie dough that mysteriously disappears before cookies ever make it into the oven! If you make these, let me know what ya think!! XOXOXO

I almost always use almond extract in my sugar cookies, so I might add a bit more than called for in the recipe. However, these sound great otherwise. I love the idea of using cream cheese. Pinning so I can try these soon!

Thanks Shannon!! And thanks for pinning 🙂 I was definitely a little conservative on the amount of almond extract I used in my recipe, but if you love it, definitely add more! If you make these I would love for you to come back and let me know what you think! XOXO

These were the best!! Normally sugar cookies go flat, crunchy and these were fluffy and filling! Added some raspberry and my son pretty much ate them in one weekend. We now have a new favorite sugar cookie, totally fun and easy to make also!
