Halloween Muddy Buddies #HalloweenTreatsWeek

Severed fingers.  Halloween sprinkles.  Throw those in the mix of the yummy, delicious and easy to make Muddy Buddies and you have a quick Halloween dessert that is perfect for packaging up to pass out, or just put them out in a huge bowl for Halloween party guests to enjoy!  Because who wouldn’t want to eat a candy severed finger??

This post and recipe was created for #HalloweenTreatsWeek! I was sent samples by some of the sponsor companies but as always opinions are 100% mine.

Wilton sent me some super fun Halloween products to make treats with, and as soon as I saw the severed fingers, I knew I wanted to use those in a recipe!  Aren’t the “test tubes” full of sprinkles adorable?!!  And if you are going to serve these Muddy Buddies at a party, an easy way for people to serve themselves from a huge bowl of the treats is to have cupcake liners for guests to fill with the treats!

Muddy Buddies are always a favorite and make for great party food, or individually portion into snack bags to pass out to the kids!  And soooooo easy to make too.  Just make sure that you grab the LARGEST bowl you have in your kitchen.  Makes the process of making these treats so much easier!  I used the new Peanut Butter Chex to make my Muddy Buddies, but you can use any variety of Chex cereal.  And don’t forget the Dixie Crystals Powdered Sugar!!  These Muddy Buddies get a generous coating of the glorious sugar.

And don’t forget the vanilla extract!  Thanks to Adams Extracts for being one of our sponsors for this blogging event!

Serves: 30 Cooking Time: 0-minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-ounce) box Peanut Butter Chex cereal
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (I used Adams Vanilla Extract)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (I used Dixie Crystals)
  • 2 cups Halloween M&M's
  • 1 cup Halloween sprinkles (I used a variety of Halloween sprinkles from Wilton)
  • 1 package of Wilton severed candy fingers

Instructions

1

In an extra large bowl, empty the entire box of Chex. Set aside.

2

In a microwave safe bowl, add the butter, peanut butter and chocolate chips. Microwave in 20-second increments, stopping to stir the mixture each time. Microwave until all the ingredients have fully melted together (approximately 90-120 seconds). Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the vanilla extract into the peanut butter-chocolate mixture.

3

Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Chex, stirring the mixture gently as you pour, to ensure the chocolate-peanut butter mixture coats all the pieces of Chex. Continue this method until you have poured the entire chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the cereal.

4

Sprinkle one cup of powdered sugar over the chocolate coated cereal, stirring to coat the cereal. Continue adding the powder sugar, one cup at a time, to the coated cereal, stirring to ensure the cereal is coated in a heavy amount of powdered sugar.

5

Fold in Halloween M&M's, sprinkles and add the severed fingers. Let Muddy Buddies cool completely before storing.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

So fun right?!!?

XOXO,

Kelly
