Home Gym Design

Home gyms are all the rage right now (or actually since Covid hit last year), and I have finally got my home gym set up and decorated.  I spent quite a bit of time on Pinterest before finally figuring out how I wanted to set up my home gym, so I wanted to share mine with you and pass on my ideas!

My gym is in a smaller extra bedroom.  I plan to spend quite a bit of time in there, so I wanted my gym to be as pretty as it is functional.  So I definitely was looking to balance the hardness of the weights and gym equipment, with softer, soothing elements.

This is what I started with:

Because I have had two back surgeries in the past year, and am still recovering, my workouts have been mostly yoga and barre DVD’s.  The TV stand was a custom built piece off Etsy, the mirror I found on Wayfair and the large workout mat was purchased off Amazon.

And then I started to slowly add more pieces to my gym, so I decided to move the TV stand to a different wall to make space for my weights and bench (Amazon):

The colorful rug (Wayfair) helps to ground the bench and adds a girly pop of color.  Having a coat rack (Hobby Lobby) is a convenient way to keep some of my accessories handy too!

And then my NordicTrack commercial 14.9 front-drive elliptical was finally delivered!  After an immense amount of research, that was the model I went with.  This model has a 32-pound flywheel, which is what helps it from being wobbly.  In the four days I have had my elliptical, I have already logged several hours on it and I have to say I am super impressed with the quality.

I also enjoy doing yoga and barre in my gym and wanted a calming space.  To get that effect, what I decided to hang up on my walls was very important.  Photowall asked me if I would be interested in using one of their prints in my house, and I jumped at the chance!  Perfect timing to put the finishing touch on my home gym.  And I am SO in love with the print I found on their website.  And FYI they seriously have a million different prints to choose from, including wall murals, wallpaper, framed prints and canvas prints.  This is the one I picked:

A simple black and white forest scene, but the medium used to make the picture, makes it look almost cartoonish.  So make sure you check out Photowall!!

Here’s an overview of the room to give you an idea of the small space I was working with.  But it definitely fits everything I need and still gives me plenty of room to roll out my mat and do yoga or barre.  The weights and weight rack (Dick’s) are out of the way underneath the window, as is my box (Amazon).  My gun safe has been in that same spot since I bought the house.  There is no moving that thing!  But I feel like it works in the room.

The TV stand and my mirror, fit perfectly on the opposite wall.  The snake plant was purchased from Leafed Plantery.  Snake plants are easy to care for and actually thrive on neglect.  Perfect for me!  Plus they actually help to purify the air.  I have several all over my house.  The snake plant and my little cactus (on the TV stand) are a fun way to add color and some life to what could be an otherwise sterile gym.

Using matching storage containers (Amazon) are perfect for keeping my gym organized and hiding things that aren’t necessarily that pretty.  I use one for all my workout DVD’s and controllers, and the other is for random pieces of gym equipment.

And that’s it!!  If you are designing a home gym or looking for design inspiration for your existing gym, I hope this post helped you.  And don’t forget to check out Photowall and use that promo code (kellylynnssweetsandtreats25) to get 25% off.  Their framed prints, canvas art and wall papers are perfect for jazzing up any space in your home!
