Throwing a Modern Tea Party for Friends and Relatives

Sometimes, you want to meet friends over a nice cup of coffee or tea. But when life gets super busy, it can be tricky to find a free slot in your schedule to get together. And when you finally can agree on a time that suits everyone, it can be impossible to find a free table at your local coffee shop.

As convenient as they can be, cafés often fail to provide the cozy and intimate environment you need for proper catch-up between friends.  You’ve got so much to talk about!  The last thing you want is to be interrupted by the loud table next to you, or to have people listening to your conversation.  Besides, there’s always delays with drinks when you’re in a large group. Some of you may still be waiting for your matcha latte with cashew milk while others have long finished their cappuccinos. In short, planning a catch-up with friends around a warm drink can be tricky these days!  But you can solve the problem by throwing a modern tea party at home.

What’s in the typical afternoon tea party?

What can you expect from a traditional afternoon tea party? If you’re familiar with British customs, their afternoon tea is a lovely tradition that consists of both sweet and savory treats. While it’s the kind of meal people get during a day out in town, it’s an excellent source of inspiration for your own coffee party at home. You may not be comfortable with a posh and fancy setting, as the afternoon tea general includes your best China, delicately cut sandwiches, and beautiful small cakes. However, you can find some great ideas for your own party at home.

Give it a modern twist

First of all, it’s fair to say that you probably will not need to prepare both savory and sweet treats. You can opt for a simple treat, such as this German Chocolate Cake recipe, which is an explosion of flavor at every bite. You can, however, show your afternoon tea influence by dressing the table for the occasion. Choose your favorite dessert plates and small dessert forks – alternatively, if you don’t have forks, small spoons will do with this moist cake. The little details can make your cake look more decadent and elegant than the recipe suggests! If you don’t have any time to bake, you can buy a box of freshly made cupcakes to share at the table, for instance.

A drink for every guest

The traditional British afternoon tea includes, of course, tea. But most people aren’t tea drinkers in the way the British are, so you may want to consider alternative drinks. If you’ve got a coffee machine, you can offer the typical choice of latte, cappuccino, etc. But you can also surprise your guests with a sweet mug of homemade hot cocoa, topped with delicious marshmallows that taste just like a cup of hot chocolate! Besides, the marshmallows are a fantastic addition to a mug of matcha latte or chai. After all, who doesn’t like hot cocoa flavor?

Catching up with friends is a sweet moment that helps to keep you grounded. It’s essential to make time to get together. So why not invite your friends over for a modern afternoon tea at home?

XOXO,

Kelly
