Halloween Chocolate Donuts

Baked chocolate donuts, topped with a generous amount of chocolate dipping sauce, crushed Oreo cookies and sprinkles decorated for Halloween!

Simple pantry staples are used to make the donuts….I bet it’s all ingredients you already have on hand!

If you donut, I mean do not (hehehe), have a donut pan yet, then you need to buy one!  I love the one I have from Wilton!

Halloween Chocolate Donuts

Print Recipe
Serves: 12 donuts Cooking Time: 11-minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt (one 5.3-ounce container), room temperature
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup coffee creamer (I used sweet cream flavored cream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I used Adams Extract)
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar (I used Dixie Crystals)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • ICING:
  • 1 cup Litehouse Chocolate Flavored Dip
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/2 cup crushed Oreo cookies
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles (I used Sweets & Treats)
  • 8 zombie hands (Treats Street USA)

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 375-degrees. Spray a donut pan with baking spray and set aside.

2

In a large mixing bowl, add the egg, yogurt, cream, vegetable oil and vanilla. Stir until well combined. Stir in the sugar. Add the cocoa powder, flour, nutmeg, baking soda and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Use a spoon to spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan. Fill the donut hole cavity two-thirds full.

3

Bake donuts in 375-degree oven for 11-minutes. Remove the pan from oven and let set for several minutes on the counter. Once cool enough to handle, remove the donuts from the pan, and transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling before icing. Allow donut pan to cool completely before filling with the remaining batter and baking as directed above.

4

Use a knife to add a layer of the chocolate sauce on the top of each donut. In a small bowl add the crushed Oreo cookies and dip the top of the donuts into the crumbs. Add the sprinkles and zombie hand.

Notes

Donuts are best if eaten the same day, but can be store at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days.

Frost your donuts with  chocolate flavored dip from Litehouse or make a simple icing using melted butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder and enough water or milk to get your desired consistency.

These gummy zombie hands were a fun decoration!

XOXO,

Kelly
