Simple Tricks to Make Breakfast Better

Tired of boring breakfasts, but don’t want to spend your mornings cooking anything too elaborate?  Here are a few tricks to make breakfast more exciting that don’t require too much complexity or hard work.  Because if your mornings are like mine, there just isn’t time for an elaborately made breakfast!

USE YOUR LEFTOVERS

Got some leftover food from the night before? There could be many easy ways to convert this into a tasty breakfast.  For example, why not put your leftovers in an omelette? This could be a great way to use up leftover veggies or meat from the night before. Even leftover rice can be yummy cooked up in an omelette!  Another option using your leftovers for breakfast, is to make a hash out of it.  However, this could require a little more work, unless you’ve already got some chopped up potatoes.  You can then simply fry up your leftovers with the potatoes all in one pan….whether it is last night’s roast dinner or leftover lasagna.

Also, there are plenty of yummy ways to make use of leftover pizza.  You could cut it up and mix it with some scrambled eggs, or you could make your own pizza waffles by simply heating up a pizza slice in a waffle iron.

ADD SOME PANCAKE MIX

Got some pancake mix in your cupboard?  Aside from whipping up some fresh pancakes, there are other ways in which you can use this mix.  For example, you could try adding some pancake mix to bacon for some pancake fried bacon. This is quicker than cooking up bacon and pancakes individually, and you can still add maple syrup afterwards to get that same tasty flavor combo.  You can also use pancake mix to pancake fry other things such as bananas or even pancake fried sausage patties.  Try experimenting and see what tasty concoctions you can rustle up!

MAKE USE OF YOUR MICROWAVE

There are a few familiar breakfast meals that you may not have realized that you can cook in the microwave.  Did you know that it’s possible to cook scrambled eggs in the microwave??   Simply spray a microwave safe bowl with butter or cooking spray and then add some eggs. Whisk these up in the bowl and then place the bowl in the microwave.  Cook for thirty seconds before checking the consistency and mixing, and continue to cook until it’s looking nice and scrambled. This could save you the time and effort of having to wash up pots and pans afterwards.

You can also cook bacon in the microwave. To do this, place a paper towel sheet on a plate and then place the strips of bacon over the top (the paper towel will absorb the grease so that it doesn’t make a mess of your microwave). Place another paper towel over the top and then cook for thirty seconds at a time until you get the desired crispiness. This can also save you the time and hassle of washing up.

EXPERIMENT WITH SAUCES AND SEASONINGS

There are lots of ways in which you can spice up morning foods with sauces and seasoning.  Chives, parsley, tarragon and basil can go great in scrambled eggs, helping to give it an extra kick!  You could even try adding chili sauce and Greek yoghurt for that extra punch of spice or creaminess.

As for bacon, there are all kinds of sauces to play with.  For an added twist on maple syrup, why not try throwing in a splash of chipotle chili powder.  You can also try adding sesame oil on top, to add a flavor of nuttiness.

DRESS UP YOUR CEREAL

If you’re a cereal lover who is craving some extra flavoring, there are many other ingredients that you can consider adding as a topping.  For those that want to keep things healthy, bananas are a popular choice.  Blueberries, raisins, strawberries and nuts are a few other things you could add to your cereal to give it some added flavor.  Meanwhile, for those wanting a less healthy treat, you could try adding some chocolate chips or even some marshmallows. Combined with nuts and fruit, this can make for a tasty bowl of goodness.

UPGRADE YOUR COFFEE

If coffee is an essential part of your morning routine, there could be easy ways to make this element better. Rather than opting for the cheap and instant stuff, why not try giving a few premium blends a go. You could even try buying a selection of blends so that you can vary up your coffee throughout the week.  It could also be worth upgrading to a French press. As this guide shows, using a French press does not have to be complicated, and it could make your coffee taste that little bit more flavorsome. Of course, there are also those full-on coffee machines with milk wands, but these require a little more money and maintenance and may be too much work for some people in the morning.

MAKE YOUR OWN FRESH JUICE OR SMOOTHIE

If you like your juice, you could also consider upgrading to home-made juice. A juicer can be a great investment for helping you to produce your own fresh juice in the morning.

Alternatively, you could use a blender to start making your own smoothies. This can be a fun way of getting some of your five a day – simply blend a few fruits together and you have your own smoothie. Bananas, peaches, cherries and plums can help add a thick texture and are full of nutrients, while you can add in all other kinds of fruit including kiwi, oranges and strawberries.  It’s also possible to add in nut butter, whey, chocolate and herbal supplements.  You can find some great smoothie recipes at this site.
