Healthy/ Ice Cream

Wink Frozen Dessert Product Review

There is an abundance of lower calorie, dairy free, allergy friendly ice cream products out there in the market place nowadays.  Which is heaven sent for people like me that cannot have dairy!!  So when I saw Wink Frozen Desserts, I knew I had to try them.  Plus 100 calories total for the entire pint?!?!  Works for me and my lack of self control hahaha.  So…with so many of these “ice creams” out there, I decided to do a little taste test and share with you what I thought about Wink!

I was provided with the Wink Frozen Desserts in this post, however all opinions are mine and HONEST.

Now first things first.  Wink is a “frozen dessert” not ice cream.  There are only 100 calories in an entire pint of Wink, which is a plant based ice cream alternative that is sugar free and dairy free.  Compare that to a NON-DAIRY Ben & Jerry’s pint, which weighs in at 800 calories for the entire pint.  The total calories for a REGULAR pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream comes in at 1,240 calories.  Soooooooo it would be like comparing carrot sticks to french fries if I was to compare the taste between regular ice cream and Wink.

Wink shipped me the frozen desserts from Connecticut, because Wink isn’t carried in any stores near me.  And my frozen pints arrived on a 100-degree day here in California, and sat on my front porch for a few hours before I got home from work.  AND MY FROZEN DESSERTS WERE STILL PERFECTLY FROZEN!!  Packed with care, in dry ice, ensured my frozen dessert treats arrived still frozen.

Okay…are you ready for what I thought?!  Grab a spoon and join me!

COCOA DOUGH

I was excited by the pictures of chocolate chip cookies on the packaging, which had me dreaming of cookie dough ice cream.  But then I was reminded that this frozen dessert was only 100 calories.  There are no chunks of cookie dough in here folks.

Dairy free ice cream means there’s no cream in there and Wink has an icy texture to it.  I don’t mind the icy texture because I LOVE chewing on ice.  Wink recommends leaving their frozen desserts out on the counter, at room temperature, for 10-15 minutes prior to eating.  Or if you JUST want it now, pop the pint in the microwave for 30-seconds!

I wasn’t the biggest fan on the Cocoa Dough because it had a coffee aftertaste to me.  And I like coffee, but not when it isn’t specifically a coffee dessert.  On a hot day, this would be a nice treat to cool me down though!

DARK CHOCOLATE

Curious what the ingredients are??  The first ingredient (which means it is the primary ingredient in that food) is water. Hence the icy texture of these frozen desserts.

Dark chocolate pairs well with EVEN MORE chocolate, so for the ultimate dessert that’s healthy and within the Keto diet, warm up one of my Keto Flourless Chocolate Cookie Cups, and put that right on top of a scoop or two of this ice cream!

CAKE BATTER

For some texture without too many extra calories, add some sprinkles to the cake batter frozen dessert!

S’MORES

Again, I think adding some texture makes this frozen dessert complete.  With the S’mores frozen dessert I added a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs.  You could add chopped nuts if you are Keto to get that crunch too.  I definitely recommend!!

SALTED CARAMEL

Not the biggest fan of this flavor….however I am not a huge salted caramel lover!

LEMON CAKE

This frozen dessert reminded me of eating (or drinking??) a frozen lemonade.  Loved it.  Adding some raspberries or strawberries would be a yummy addition to the Wink Lemon Cake frozen dessert too.

STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE

Cheesecake isn’t complete without a graham cracker crust…so again I enjoyed this frozen dessert with just a sprinkling of graham cracker crumbs on top.  That texture is EVERYTHING!

VANILLA BEAN

Vanilla bean is plain in flavor, but I enjoyed the simpleness of this flavor. I definitely think adding some sugar free mini chocolate chips help make this a complete dessert!

Or how about Wink Vanilla Bean Ice Cream served with Keto friendly Cinnamon Sugar Baked Donuts?!  Donuts and ice cream…yeah it’s an awesome combo!

CHOCO MINT

Scoop this pint of Choco Mint into a bowl and top it with some of my allergy friendly Thin Mint Cookies!  Love the contrast of flavors between the mint and chocolate and of course the added texture!

ICED LATTE

Just eat this dessert like it’s an iced coffee 🙂  Less calories than those foo-foo drinks from that one coffee place.

STRAWBERRY

Again….very light on flavor.  But I think adding in some chunks of fresh ripe strawberries would make this AMAZING.

CINNAMON BUN

Cookies and ice cream!  Pair this Cinnamon Bun frozen dessert with my Keto Snickerdoodle Cookies!

So what do you think?!  Would you try Wink Frozen Desserts?  And if so, which flavor??  If you are on the Keto diet, these frozen desserts are the “ice cream” for you.

XOXO,

Kelly

Interesting–I haven’t heard of Wink products. I’ll have to see if they’re available in Phoenix!

I tried it and it was terrible.I ordered several flavors to qualify for their free shipping offers. They have a 4 pint minimum.

They will offer free shipping if you spend around $50-70.

So I bit the bullet because I couldn’t find any bad reviews.

We received the ‘ice cream’ packaged in dry ice. We waited for it to soften and everyone grabbed a spoon…and Every. Single. Flavor. was terrible.

It was like eating cold chalk. Pureed peas with lipstick. Chemicals. Just gross.

Since there is no cream, it is like lightly flavored ice but that might even be too generous.

My entire family’s taste buds sent in their resignation.

So we threw away the expensive products and that was that.

A few weeks later I saw a post by Wink and someone asked if anyone had tried it…if you look on their page or posts, there are no negative reviews..just a lot of people asking if anyone has tried it without response.

So I replied and very nicely said the taste wasn’t for me. That’s it. Didn’t even go into full detail like above.

They blocked me! The page blocked me!

So I did a little recon and found TONS of terrible reviews on sites and pages they couldn’t police.

Yelp is a great resource as well. Apparently the tactic of blocking people is an approved marketing strategy.

So, before you try it–do a little recon…you might save some money, or you might order and find that you like it.

At least you’ll have a little bit of truth sprinkled among the forced silence of dissatisfied WINK customers.

Yes I totally agree. Some of the flavors I did not care for and others were okay. I have kind of a bland diet due to stomach issues, so regular ice cream isn’t something I have had for several years, so my taste buds may be skewed. For a cool snack it’s ok. It’s that icy texture that your will like or hate. I like chewing on ice, so for me the ice cream had an addictive quality to it. Arctic Zero is still my favorite when it comes to low calorie ice cream though. Thanks for sharing your review!! XOXO
