Homemade Kit Kat Bars

Easy, three ingredient, homemade Kit Kat bars!  And they only take a few minutes to make – no special equipment needed either!  This is a fun recipe to make with the kids, and since it’s no-bake, you can make it in the dead heat of Summer.

The three ingredients you need: Rice Chex cereal, a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips and a can of sweetened condensed milk.  I added a touch of salt and a splash of vanilla extract to my Kit Kats…but totally optional.  The vanilla gives the Kit Kats an added sweet flavor and the salt balances it all out.

Serves: 30 Cooking Time: 1-2 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (I used Rodelle Gourmet Vanilla Extract)
  • 2 cups Rice Chex cereal

Instructions

1

Line an 8x8-inch bake pan with foil and spray the bottom and sides with baking spray. Set aside.

2

In a microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate chips and the entire can of sweetened condensed milk (making sure to scrape out every bit). Place the bowl in the microwave and microwave for 1-2 minutes, stopping every 15-seconds to stir the mixture. Microwave only until the chocolate chips are fully melted. Stir the mixture until smooth.

3

Add the salt and vanilla extract (optional). Fold in the Rice Chex cereal. Pour mixture into prepared pan in an even layer. Place pan in the refrigerator to chill.

4

Once the Kit Kats are chilled, use a sharp knife to cut into Kit Kat sized sticks or into squares.

Notes

Store Kit Kats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a crisper texture. Can be stored at room temperature, but Kit Kats will be soft.
