These 9 Tips Will Help You Beat Travel Boredom

Travelling is a lot of fun. The only part of travelling the world that’s not fun is the actual travelling itself (i.e., sitting in a plane, car, boat, or bus). Whether you travel as a hobby, for work, or simply out of necessity, there are a few things that you can do to reduce the boredom that’s associated with travelling.

By finding things to do when you are moving between places, you will be able to make your trip a lot more enjoyable. This post will offer nine tips for overcoming boredom when you are travelling:

Digital Bingo

One very popular way of killing time is bingo, a game that involves matching numbers on a sheet to those called out by the bingo caller. It is entirely possible to play bingo on one’s phone, on the go. In fact, digital bingo is becoming many players’ preferred method. Out of all of the internet’s bingo games (of which there are thousands) Blackout Bingo is one of the most prominent. It’s still a good idea to read Blackout Bingo reviews before committing, though. You should always read a game’s reviews so that you can be sure it is the right one for you.

Reading Books

If you are a fan of literature, then you could take a few books along with you. Books are by far the most popular way of distracting oneself on long journeys. Most people instinctively bring books along with them when they are going away because a book can be very absorbing. Bringing books along with you is a very easy way to forget about your travels and focus on something else. With that said, try to find a book that you actually enjoy; don’t just select a random book and bring it because then you won’t be able to give it all of your attention (unless you’re fortunate enough to really like your random selection).

Online Games

Other online video games unrelated to gambling are also a good choice for distracting yourself, but only if you have access to a mobile device or laptop. If you are taking a laptop with you, then you can download actual video games, and then play them while you are traveling. If you have your mobile phone with you, then you will be able to download and play free-to-play games, or things like Call of Duty: Warzone. Bear in mind that playing games on one’s phone can drain its battery. You might need your phone for getting around, so don’t use all of its battery at once.

Competitive Games

A sub-category of online games is competitive games, which involve playing games like chess against artificial intelligence. You can also play these games against other people, though if you are traveling then it’s highly unlikely that you will have a stable enough internet connection to do this. If you are traveling with loved ones on the other hand, then you could always find a game that allows for multiplayer play, and then play against them.

Writing Diary

Why not buy a diary and take it with you? If you travel a lot, then a travel diary can be a great way of capturing your emotions and perceptions of things permanently. You can then go back to your diary many years from now and re-read it. Diaries can be a  great way to get a glimpse into how your mind once worked or the ideas that you used to have. Make sure that you bring enough pens or pencils with you if you are traveling for a long time so that you can write an entry each day (or several).

Drawing Pictures

An alternative to writing out a diary is drawing pictures of the people and places that you see along the way. This can be a lot of fun, especially if you are traveling by bus. Since most people have smartphones with them all of the time, you can use yours to take photographs, which you can then copy from your phone onto paper. It’s a lot easier to draw from pictures than from memory. Without a phone, you would have to draw from memory because it’s unlikely that you are going to stay in one place for long enough to get pictures of it drawn.

Travel Blogging

Travel blogging is another alternative to writing down in a diary. If you travel often, then travel blogging can actually be a very lucrative way of making money. An alternative to travel blogging is travel vlogging, which is essentially just the same thing except instead of writing down what happens, you video it. You can then create a YouTube channel and post videos to it. Some people have made absolute fortunes from travel vlogging, though it is something that you will have to dedicate a lot of time and effort to, otherwise, you won’t succeed at it. Food vlogging is also very popular, especially in places like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

Taking Pictures

If you want to capture precious moments traveling but don’t fancy blogging, drawing, or vlogging, then you can bring a camera along with you and just photograph things. Make sure to invest in a high-quality camera so that your photos are as good as possible. You can then print these photos out, post them on social media, or just keep them stored on your laptop or phone. It is a good idea to print them out if you want to keep them permanently. Printing them out will ensure that you have backup copies if your electronic devices are ever corrupted, broken, or lost.

Documenting Encounters

Lastly, you could consider writing a book and documenting all of the encounters that you have along the way. If you are traveling to a part of the world that’s relatively unknown, then documenting your encounters can help other people to understand what it’s like to travel in that part of the world. If you are going to do this, then avoid inserting your opinion and instead stick to the facts.

If you travel a lot, then you probably already know how boring it can be. The best way to reduce boredom when travelling is to follow this page’s advice. Make sure that whatever you do to reduce the boredom of traveling, you aren’t obnoxious and don’t make anyone else uncomfortable (i.e., by watching movies or listening to music loudly, or talking over people’s conversations by vlogging).
