Four Simple Tips For A Healthy Pizza Night

Pizza is a delicious treat that is always a hit with everybody, but it’s not always the healthiest thing. Eating a big takeout pizza from time to time isn’t the end of the world as long as it’s part of a balanced diet, but you shouldn’t indulge too often. That’s probably not what you want to hear if you love pizza, but you’ll be pleased to know that there are some simple tricks you can use to cut the calories and load up on good stuff. These are the best ways to make pizza healthier so you can eat it more often.

Change Up The Base

The base is one of the biggest issues with pizza because it has a lot of carbs and not much else. The thing is, there are plenty of great ways to change up the base to make a more interesting pizza, like these English Muffin Pizzas, for example.

You can also make simple changes to the base to make it healthier, such as opting for a thin base, instead of a deep pan option, to cut back on calories without making sacrifices. Wholemeal bases are also much healthier than ones made with white flour.

You don’t even have to use a dough base if you really want to cut back on carbs. You can make a great pizza base using cauliflower and it holds together just like a normal base.

Go For The Vegan Option

Vegan food has exploded in the last few years and there are now more options than ever. In many cases, they are healthier and you can get plenty of great vegan pizza options in restaurants and takeout places, and you can easily pick up the ingredients to make your own. The cheese and meat toppings are often the highest calorie ingredients in a pizza, so if you switch to vegan alternatives, you cut the calories. It also encourages you to add more veggies, so you get more nutrients.

Choose Lean Protein Toppings

If you don’t like the idea of vegan pizza and you still want meat toppings, choose carefully and go for lean options to bring the calories down. Chicken is a much healthier option than things like pepperoni, which has a higher fat content and lots of sodium. Alternatively, seafood is a great healthy protein option that is delicious on pizza. So, instead of going for a classic pepperoni pizza experiment with more exciting, healthier options.

Pick Healthier Sides

Fries and wedges or garlic bread are all typical sides to have with a pizza but they just add to the calories and they don’t have much nutritional value. So, if you are trying to make pizza night healthier, go for a healthier side instead. A simple side salad made with kale, for example, is packed full of fiber and great nutrients.

Sometimes, it’s nice to have a big blowout and eat an unhealthy takeout pizza, but you can’t make a habit of it if you want to stick to a healthy diet. Luckily, you can use these simple tips to make pizza night healthy.
