Peppermint Patties

Easy, homemade Peppermint Patties made with just four ingredients!  This easy candy recipe requires no baking, no candy thermometer.  Just a bowl, a spoon and a couple of ingredients.  When you read this recipe, you will be amazed at how easy it really is to make this candy from scratch at home.  Sorry York, you ain’t got nothing on these patties!

This candy can be made in minutes, but needs time to “dry” so you have to have some patience.  I have been making my own Peppermint Patties for years and it’s always fun to surprise people who think that Peppermint Patties can only be bought at the store.  Nope!  You can make them yourself people.  And it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

First step is to mix up the peppermint filling and set the filling out to dry.  Flip the patties over after an hour of drying, so the bottom can dry.  After the second drying process is over, coat in chocolate and eat!

Print Recipe
Serves: 37 Cooking Time: 0-minutes

Ingredients

  • PEPPERMINT FILLING:
  • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract or peppermint emulsion
  • 1 drop green food coloring, optional
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • CHOCOLATE COATING:
  • 1 16-ounce package chocolate almond bark or milk chocolate candy wafers (or 2 cups milk chocolate chips and 1 tsp shortening)

Instructions

1

PEPPERMINT FILLING: Lay a large sheet of wax paper on the counter. In a large bowl, stir together the sweetened condensed milk, peppermint extract and food coloring. Stir in one cup of powdered sugar into the bowl, stirring the sugar into the mixture until completely combined. Continue to stir in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until all four cups of sugar are incorporated. Dough will be stiff.

2

Use a small cookie scoop to scoop approximately 1-1/2 tablespoons of peppermint "dough" into balls. Drop the balls onto the wax paper and use the palm of your hand to flatten slightly.

3

Let the filling patties dry for 1-2 hours, and then flip the patties over to dry the other side.

4

CHOCOALTE COATING: Once the filling has dried, chop up several squares of chocolate almond bark and add into a medium sized bowl. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, stopping every 15-seconds to stir the chocolate. Once the chocolate is completely melted, remove the bowl from the microwave. Place a pattie on top of a fork and dunk the pattie in the melted chocolate. Knock the excess chocolate from the pattie, by tapping the fork on the side of the bowl. Place the chocolate covered pattie back onto the wax paper. Continue process until all patties are covered in chocolate. Let patties set on the wax paper until the chocolate has dried completely.

Notes

Store peppermint patties in an air tight container in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

These are the most perfect little peppermint patties ever! I made peppermint patties once forever ago and they didn’t end up as cute as yours–totally misshapen :). I’m going to try your technique!

Awww thanks Kelsie!! I figured out the trick to getting them the perfect shape: a small cookie scoop and then slightly flatten the balls with my palm! The first time I made these, mine were not the prettiest either hehehe 🙂
